From Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Guil began his musical journey at an early age by playing the classical guitar. At the age of 14, he switched to the bass guitar. 

One of the biggest influences in his musical career is his grandfather Sergio Machado, an accomplished percussionist who performed in the early 50’s with the pioneers of Bossa Nova, including Tom Jobim, Sergio Mendes, Tiao Neto, Stan Getz, and others. 

In Brazil, Guil has performed with Daniel Jobim, Joao Donato, Arthur Maia, Marcio Montarroyos, Claudio Zoli, and many others. Since Guil arrived in the US, he has performed with members of Tower of Power, Malo, Pete Escovedo, Sheila E., Simon Phillips, O’Bryan, Ruben Estrada, Cougar Estrada, Ira Nepus, Doug Webb, Dennis Rowland (Count Basie), Rachel Flowers, Jimmy Calire, Teka, Mitchell Long, Andy Langham, Jacob Scesney, Kevin Fukagawa, and many others.
